Generosity and Christian giving is an act of worship and part of the challenging lifestyle that is following Jesus. We encourage all who are part of the Parish of the Resurrection to give something, however small, to help fund the life of our Parish.
Our giving sustains: our church buildings – places dedicated to worship, prayer and witness.
Our giving sustains: ministers and trains new ministers.
Our giving sustains: parish ministry; measured by every ill person visited, every school assembly taken, every bereaved family comforted, every sermon preached, Communion celebrated, and person shown the love of Christ through our care, comfort and compassion… and loads, loads more!
Our giving sustains: mission both here and overseas for people we will never meet but to whom we are able to give practical support through our ministry of giving.
This ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but overflows
with many thanksgivings to God
2 Cor 9:12
The Church of England has produced a great booklet The Money Revolution to help Christians think about their finances.
To cultivate the grace of giving we need to think carefully about all we receive from God, consider our priorities then prayerfully review our giving (we encourage people to do this at least annually).
How to decide how much to give
There is no easy formula – we are commanded to love God and our neighbour as ourselves. It is no great sacrifice to put someone we love first!
But it requires a new set of priorities to put God and the ministry of his church first in our finances as we do in our weekly worship when we give the first of the week to God in worship.
Love is generous, love is kind and love is selfless – we see that in all God gives to us; how will we respond? We encourage people to:
- Give regularly preferably through the Parish Giving Scheme
- Use Gift Aid if you pay tax
- Give proportionately with a % of your income coming to fund ministry
Monthly income | Giving 1% £ | Giving 2% £ | Giving 5% £ | Giving 10% £ |
£500 | 5 | 10 | 25 | 50 |
£1000 | 10 | 20 | 50 | 100 |
£2000 | 20 | 40 | 100 | 200 |
£4000 | 40 | 80 | 200 | 400 |
